In October 2025, the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic (Finančná správa) together with the police carried out a large-scale operation called “Biatec”, aimed at fighting illegal production and distribution of tobacco products.
As a result, seven people were detained. Authorities seized around six million cigarettes, more than 13 tonnes of cut tobacco, and industrial equipment with an estimated value of 500,000 euros.
Illegal Cigarette Factory in Western Slovakia
A well-organized illegal factory was discovered in the western part of Slovakia. The factory was producing cigarettes intended for distribution on the black market in Western Europe.
Inside the premises, authorities found a modern production line, raw materials, packaging materials and stored finished products.
According to preliminary calculations, the loss to the state budget due to unpaid excise tax may exceed 2.8 million euros.
Cooperation Between Authorities
The operation involved armed units of the Financial Administration from Trenčín, Bratislava, Trnava and Nitra, as well as investigators, forensic specialists and police officers.
The operation was prepared and carried out in cooperation with the criminal division of the Financial Administration.
Additional Discovery: Liquids for Electronic Cigarettes
In the same month, during an inspection of a warehouse in the village of Nána, in the Nové Zámky district, customs officers from Nitra discovered almost 1.7 million millilitres of liquids for electronic cigarettes without excise stamps.
Part of the products was labelled as “cannabis relax”, and there is suspicion that the products may contain psychotropic substances.
The case was handed over to the criminal authority because of suspected violations of legislation related to narcotic substances.
The estimated damage to the state budget is more than 350,000 euros.
