The Financial Administration warns entrepreneurs: check your cash register settings and diacritic printing

BRATISLAVA — 12 May 2026: The Financial Administration warns entrepreneurs to check the settings of their cash registers and printers. Cash register receipts must correctly display all characters of the Slovak alphabet, including diacritics.

If an entrepreneur issues receipts without diacritics or with incorrectly printed characters, it is recommended to check the cash register settings and the compatibility of the printer being used. In the case of a virtual cash register (VRP), it is important to use a supported printer. Incorrect device settings or an unsuitable printer may cause cash register receipts to be printed incorrectly.

According to Section 5(5) of Act No. 384/2025 Coll., a printer communicating with a cash register must be able to print all characters of the Slovak alphabet, including punctuation marks.

If a cash register receipt does not meet the legally required elements, the entrepreneur may face a fine from EUR 150 to EUR 6,500. If the entrepreneur uses a cash register that does not allow the printing of all characters of the Slovak alphabet, including punctuation marks, the minimum fine is EUR 1,500.

The Financial Administration also reminds entrepreneurs that, under the Act on the Registration of Sales, the data shown on the cash register receipt must correspond to the data sent to the Financial Administration system.

Therefore, the Financial Administration recommends that entrepreneurs check their cash register devices and, if necessary, contact a service technician or their cash register solution provider. The aim of the Financial Administration is to prevent problems and ensure that cash register receipts meet all legal requirements.
